The below are useful resources that may assist in developing a business plan, building your practice, and flourishing as an ethical entrepreneur. Cultivating Capacity - A page of useful resources put together by a counselor and consultant that wanted to assist others in building their own practices. Her version is comprehensive and more attractive than mine (for now).
Hostinger - A very useful resource that offers website domains, hosting, and building. More comprehensive options such as Wix and Squarespace are useful if you want more hand-holding, but you will pay more for that!
SimplePractice - A useful EMR/EHR for mental health professionals. This is likely the most popular option within our field. They started integrating medical and medical-adjacent professionals more recently after purchasing Luminello in 2024.
Berries - A LLM-powered virtual scribe option built specifically for mental health professionals. I am very wary of "AI" and any associated tools; currently, I feel this is one of the more helpful and less worrisome options available - but options here change daily.
Headway - Though this platform now (as of summer 2025) offers an EHR, I have used it almost entirely for only credentialing, insurance claims, and billing for the majority of insurance plans that I work with.
Vistaprint - One of the easiest and most affordable options for printing business cards and other marketing materials.
Google Workspace - Though I am not the biggest fan of Google at-large, this option is likely the most affordable and comprehensive platform for business email and, as needed, productivity software. (Note that you can often have business email bundled into the website builder.) Whatever option utilized here must be HIPAA-compliant, which generally means that they will offer a BAA, or Business Associate Agreement.
Google Voice - See above for my opinions on Google, but the business version is affordable and will cover the basics needed for business phone service (and will offer a BAA). Note that the free version CANNOT be used for business purposes - and whether or not you prefer to use the phone, all insurance plans and other parties require the use of a a phone with confidential and secure voicemail.
